"Adopt Don't Shop" Extremists Lack Nuance - Rescue vs Breeder Dogs
53Like so much else in life, the debate between rescuing a pet or purchasing from a breeder requires more nuance than most people seem to give it. So much nuance that I couldn't cover every issue, especially feeling as rushed as I did the day I spontaneously filmed this. For example, I didn't discuss pet shops. But I hope you can get an overall idea of the point I'm trying to make. There is no one size fits all when it comes to matching companion animals to human families. Similarly, other pet-related arguments also lack nuance, whether it's the training methods I touched on, or the way people get intensely emotional about what to feed them. Honestly, unless an animal is actually being mistreated, people should really chill out and stop trying to control each other. There's more than one way to do life and still be a good person doing the best you can with what you have. No one is perfect either, not even the self-righteous types who think they are.
As a side note, I know I was rather negative, but I didn't hate the dog trainer. It's just easier to talk about negatives in a video like this. She did suggest Triton could do commercial work in future given his unique good looks, which is an intriguing possibility.
Note also I don't think all "Adopt Don't Shop" advocates are extremists, just in case people read the title of this video with the wrong emphasis. It's only the ones who inflexibly push that view who I have a problem with. I'm fine with advocates who understand it's not for everyone. It's a good cause to promote as long as people don't get aggro when people choose ethical breeders instead.
