This week I wanted to share something a bit different with you all. I’m currently prepping a couple of new VGM covers for the coming weeks, but they are a little more involved than usual and will take a bit more time.
In the meantime, I thought I would share this little tune I composed for a good friends promo video last week. It's musically very different than anything I've posted on this channel before, but reasonably pleased with how it ended up turning out. At some point, I may write a longer version of this, but the promo spots are generally fairly short and I wrote this to sync up to the video.
The writing process for this piece was fairly quick and dirty. The first step was programming the drum part on my Beatstep Pro. I used that to get a good feel for the feel of the piece. After that I wrote out this very simple and bouncy bass part. I wanted the bass to really accent the drum part and give it a bit more snap. After that I recorded a couple of E-Piano and Piano improvisations and then kept the 2 takes I was most happy with. Once the melody parts were recorded, I went back in and tweaked the mix and added some analog synth pads and finished up within a couple hours.
I’ve had some serious writers block recently, so this quick and dirty compositional process was so refreshing and productive. Hope you guys like how this turned out.
