144Afterimage is a visualy stunning High-Fantasy metroidvania title with a strong anime feel.
The game takes place in the mythical land of Engradin, a place created by a primordial, great deity who then left, leaving four Goliaths in her wake to care for it, each responsible for one of the four elements of fire, water, air and earth. For a time, the Goliaths upheld order and the world lived in harmony, allowing beings to reincarnate and life to proliferate. Eventually, humans became too greedy and, in their hubris, waged war against the Goliaths, a war that was eventually brought to an abrupt halt by an event known as The Razing, a huge explosion that devastated the realm and near-eradicated mankind. Years have passed since this cataclysmic event, with the remaining humans having formed small settlements in order to survive. However, out of nowhere, a new threat has risen as mystical forces have begun attacking villages and towns, leaving destruction on their trail. You take on the role of Renee, an amnesiac girl whose village has just been raided, and her mentor vanished. In the company of a floating creature called Ifree, Renee embarks on a journey to find her missing teacher, in the process becoming involved in events that will determine the fate of the world.
