Kentucky Route Zero is a magical realist, episodic, point and click adventure game created and published by indie developers Jake Elliott, Tamas Kemenczy, and Ben Babbitt under the name Cardboard Computer.
The game is separated into five Acts, following the narrative of a truck driver named Conway and the mysterious people he meets as he tries to cross the fictional Route Zero to make a final delivery for the antique company for which he works. The first Act was released on January 7, 2013.
The game is available on the creator's website, Steam, itch.io, GOG.com and the Humble Store. Players receive all available acts upon purchase, with future acts and updates free-of-charge. The second, third and fourth acts have since been released, with the final act forthcoming. Between each act, a short free-to-play, standalone interlude has been released in the game's website. A console port, called the "TV Edition" and published by Annapurna Interactive, was released on January 28, 2020 along with the fifth and final act for both PC and consoles.
An antique furniture delivery man trying to make his small shop's last delivery gets lost along the way and meets a haunted TV repairwoman, a young boy and his giant eagle brother, a pair of robot musicians, and dozens of other characters. Together, they explore the nocturnal highways and country roads of Kentucky, the storied Echo River by ferry, and the mysterious Route Zero, the secret highway that runs through Mammoth Cave.
The game was originally released in five episodes, with companion "interludes." All five episodes and interludes will be available at release time and packaged together for consoles in the "TV Edition." Ben Babbitt composed the music and sound design for the game, and arranged a suite of hymns and bluegrass standards performed by the Bedquilt Ramblers.
