Age of Mythology Retold EP20: M18 - A Long Way From Home [Titan Difficulty]
EP20R - I am really sorry about the audio issues. This episode was recorded 7 months and a few days after the last Retold episode. I had completed the switch to my new setup with the microphone being one of the last hardware switched over.
However, as previous commentary recordings weren't done on this new setup they remained unaffected. That's why there's a difference. It's not easy to tell the difference just by listening, and it was until I settled down to edit the footage that I realized the problems. I'm in the midst of fixing them so hopefully they're alright by Episode 25 of Retold.
Anyway I'm gonna be saving the game very very frequently because this mission was a whole lot more difficult, pre-empted with the mission "Good Advice".
9:26 I reloaded the save. Didn't make it clear enough.
24:49 I made a real bad choice going for avengers. Should've gone for Son of Osiris as I did the Gold and Extended editions. But this is the folly of recording after half a year. I couldn't remember everything and i missed out this part. Very sorry for the mismatch to the other 2 episodes of this mission.
The walls at 35:15 weren't all too useful. They still will attack from there and even destroy the walls. But good thing is, they'll destroy the whole length. Walls cost gold so if we can spare some, then build a few layers to delay them. Then again, I have never considered setting up static defenses like towers and castles to defend the walls! They could've been enough to deter enemies from attacking that way.
The starting of this mission was extremely tedious, but once we've established some form of defense defeating their first wave that hits at around
16:45 and perhaps second and third wave, the mission is pretty much setup for late game. So survive for 10minutes after the first big wave at 16:45. And we'd be stable around 27mins
However. from there onwards it's all about timing and attrition. The enemy cheats in that they know exactly where your main army and heavy defenses are and they detour to the weaker side, with absolutely no scouting. Resource and population cap cheats are understandable, and to a lesser extent resource source cheat (i.e. half rate of consumption when mining from gold pile e.g. 3000 gold pile yields 6000), but map cheats are bad. There's very little strategizing to talk about when the enemy knows exactly where your units are without even needing to scout.
Oh and I reloaded at 1:09:18 but I didn't mention it. Even missed out showing the build 50 fortress achievement that popped up. (added as an on-screen overlay)
The additional population from the tents and houses are really useful but not when they're always in very exposed areas that are close to impossible to defend adequately.
1:20:52 elephants aren't the problem, it's my lack of skills at micromanaging the units
