TIL I ain't scared of shitty gameplay and design

Ok, so let me explain this title.
My ORIGINAL plan was was to play Amnesia: The Dark Descent. What started as a journey of being very scared turned into one of aggravation, fast. Not just because the primary mechanic of the game is ableist as hell, but also IT'S A FALSE PLATITUDE. I noticed this at hour three in the game, where literally just playing the game meant I HAD to take sanity damage. All the sanity damage is scripted. The controls are clunky, the story is HIGHLY predictable, but also: the main mechanic of the game is a *lie*. You literally do not have to worry about anything. I started noticing my sanity fluctuate over little to nothing and fell down the rabbit hole of discovering that the devs themselves actively admitted that the sanity mechanic is not a 'real' thing.
They made a game about trolling and people ate it up. I was so sad.
Everyone: if you're reading this-just....just go play Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. Holy shit is it significantly better. Don't give Amnesia credit beyond it got YouTube fame things over 10 years ago. And no, it wasn't good 10 years ago.
So we let that go, and we played Darkest Dungeon because I'd rather talk about shitty eldritch horror ancestors and teach everyone how to body DD than trying to rationalize how 'Amnesia is a great scary game' because dear god, no it isn't.
