Our approach is to spawn a bunch of random AIs that have no idea what they are doing. We throw ninja stars at them until every last one has been hit. Once they have all been hit, we pick the most successful ones and then breed those to create the next generation of hopefully better AIs.
This entire process is known as NEAT. The full source code is available above, as well as a demo that works completely in the browser.
