Very basic with only one button, but the skill ceiling is there. If you can hold onto your powerups you can dominate the bosses. Blue clam boss has a safe space right above where he splits really close to him. Had some bad play here that cost us time, so definitely beatable! Another interesting item was that we had to use the Service Mode button to put in coins after a certain point, as the Coin 1 and 2 shoots weren't working. Also it seems like crashing into things does do damage, so might be able to milk that for faster kills.
