Air Combat #9 | Destroy Military Port Facilities
0Welcome to a non-commentary playthrough of the original Ace Combat (Air Combat as it was named outside of Japan), where I'll be going through each of the game's 17 sorties and doing my very best to ace a lot of bogeys!
I have set myself some conditions for this run: Hard difficulty, no damage and (if possible), destroy any non-targets or as many as I can. I'm also using certain planes for certain missions. All of this is to try and unlock a bunch of achievements through the RetroAchievements website, just for some extra 'ace pilot' cred.
STORY:
Having thwarted the recapture of Donet City, the government military turned its attention to the counteroffensive in the north, specifically in the area of Nouikott Bay. The strategic objective there was Navy Island, the main naval base of the Skully Islands that was seized early on during the coup. In order to secure superiority over the northern waters, Scarface Squadron was tasked not only to attack the island facilities but also to sink the Furious, an advanced Aegis cruiser that was presently docked.
BRIEFING:
"Naval Intelligence reports a transport heading to Nouikott Bay. Since it may be a troop transport, we need to sink it before it docks. Follow up with destruction of the island port facilities. The opposition is expected to consist of an enemy fighter wing of unknown composition and patrolling Aegis warships. The Aegis missile system is highly effective; eliminate the warships quickly. MY THOUGHTS:
Managed to do this one on my first try! Not as difficult as it first seems as long as you're smart about engaging the warship. The R-C01s guarding it can be a pain to hit but they're much less of a pain than the previous YF-23s. This is a cool mission as I always liked the look of Navy Island and flying through the cut in the middle. Is anyone else reminded of the Comona Islands?
