Airborne Troops: Countdown to D-Day is a Third Person Action game set in France during World War II. The player is a paratrooper with the American 101st Airborne Division and must complete objectives while battling German soldiers before, during, and after the Allied Invasion of Normandy

Airborne Troops centers around paratrooper John Welsh, who is tasked with escorting a secret agent, Colonel Murat to a meet up with the French resistance outside the German occupied town of Vierville. While over the town, Welsh's plane is heavily damaged and Murat is unable to continue the mission. Welsh chooses to go on alone, and is given the location of a resistance fighter that will take him to the French Resistance chief, Valmy. With information in hand, Welsh parachutes into occupied France on June 4th, 1944 and sets off on his mission

Gameplay
The player navigates the war torn city of Vierville in a linear fashion. In their way will be German patrols, Machine Gun positions, Vehicles, and other obstacles. Airborne Troops is a typical Third Person Action game, similar in ways to Ghost Recon : Advanced Warfighter 2 or Syphon Filter : Dark Mirror

The combat in Airborne Troops involves a combination of stealth and shooter elements. The player can choose to silently take out German patrols with his knife, or use any of the firearms they've picked up. Weapons range from the knife, the game's default weapon, to the mid-range M1 Garand rifle, the short-range M1 Thompson SMG, satchel charges for destroying AA guns and obstacles, and grenades for taking out groups of enemies
