2The 1988 dub is 1000 times better quality, and contains no swearing. Yes the sound quality isn't as good as the other two. But if you really want the full 5.1 experience, watch Japanese with English subtitles. Why they have ruined the Akira masterpiece with a new dub is beyond me.
the 80s had tons of talented voice actors for dubbing 80s cartoons.. seems it became a lost art after the new millennium.
the best way to enjoy Akira is to buy a Blueray.
