Aladdin Sega Genesis gameplay
Based on the Disney movie of the same name, the Aladdin video game for the Sega Genesis was developed and published by Virgin in 1993. Because it used cel animation, the platformer had graphics that were remarkably fluid for the time they were made. In response to a request from Tommy Tallarico, the audio director at Virgin, who was responsible for the Genesis instruments and incidental transition music, Donald S. Griffin created five original compositions and five arrangements for the film. In comparison to the SNES version, the Genesis version featured animation that was produced by Disney animators working under the direction of Andy Luckey, who was in charge of animation production at Virgin, as well as Virgin animators Mike Dietz and Ian Freedman.
The primary focus of the gameplay is on using simple sword moves to dispatch foes and traverse various platforms. There were several levels that were very distinct from one another, including one in which Aladdin had to use a carpet to flee from the Cave of Wonders and another in which he had to leap across the rooftops of Agrabah. There were not many bosses in the game. The player takes control of Aladdin, who must make his way through several levels based on locations from the film. These levels include the streets and rooftops of Agrabah, the Cave of Wonders, and the dungeon of the Sultan, with the final confrontation taking place in the palace of the Grand Vizier Jafar. Aladdin faces opposition from not only the guards of the Sultan but also the animals that live in the desert. He has the ability to defend himself with both his sword and apples that he throws. In addition to apples, Aladdin is able to gather gems, which he can then exchange with merchants for lives and to continue the game. Activating bonus rounds requires finding icons of Genie or Abu. The Genie bonus round is a game of chance that can award extra lives, apples, or gems to the player. During the bonus round for Abu, the player takes control of the little monkey and attempts to collect bonus items that fall from the sky without coming into contact with any of the undesirable objects, such as rocks and pots.
