Save the changes and launch the game. You should notice the new settings (LOD, Shadow Res & Reflections). To reverse your file changes, simply replace ENGINE_SETTINGS.XML with the original (backed up) version.

I added my own set of values a little different than what the source offers.
My Shadows are 5K at Max instead of 4K, my Level of Detail scales a little further as well.
