Alienware, a division of Dell, recently unveiled the world's fastest gaming monitor.
The model called Alienware AW2524HF operates at a frequency of 500 hertz, although the resolution is only Full HD (1920x1080). However, the monitor is declared as eSports, so this resolution was expected (input lag increases at higher ones).
As for other important characteristics, the novelty has an IPS matrix with full sRGB color coverage (standard for Windows), and the declared response time is only 0.5 milliseconds. It is probably about the minimum possible speed of the matrix response from one shade of gray to another - this is the characteristic most often used in marketing materials.
Information has already appeared on the aggregator website DisplaySpecifications that the average response time of this model is slightly more than 2 milliseconds.
The brightness of the AW2524HF screen is 400 nits. This is quite a high figure for indoor use. Also, 400 nits provide formal support for HDR content. Although usually on screens with a brightness below 600 nits, the color rendering deteriorates when the extended dynamic range mode is turned on.
In addition, Alienware's new eSports monitor has 10-bit color support. However, the matrix is set to 8-bit, and FRC technology is used to increase chroma. Today, this is a standard combination for most models of displays in the middle price segment and above.
The starting price of the Alienware AW2524HF is $650.
