The all-new 2022 Kia Carnival minivan makes a splash as it enters the marketplace. It provides plenty of space and a comfortable ride, and it’s loaded with technology.
The Kia Carnival is a good minivan. It has a capable V6 engine, gets good gas mileage, and delivers a relaxed ride and poised handling. The interior looks great, with upscale materials and three spacious rows of seats. There’s lots of cargo room, including a class-leading total behind the third-row seats. Plenty of features come standard as well, including lots of driver assistance technology and a user-friendly infotainment system.
The Carnival carries a starting price of $32,100, and its highest trim starts at $46,100. If you exclude the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid – which is an outlier, as it’s a plug-in hybrid, which tend to be more expensive than nonhybrids or regular hybrids – minivan starting prices range from the high $20,000s to the mid-$30,000s, so the Carnival falls in the middle of the spread. This Kia’s highest trim is a bit less expensive than some competitors’ top models, which can cost upward of $50,000.
Kia Carnival vs. Honda Odyssey
The Honda Odyssey has earned its reputation as the benchmark other minivans are compared against. It has an energetic engine, an upscale interior, a cushioned ride, and plenty of features. The Carnival comes with more standard technology, including smartphone connectivity features, but the Honda offers those amenities, and it has more cargo space. These are two all-around good choices in the class, and they even have nearly identical starting prices.
The 2022 Kia Carnival comes in four trims: LX, EX, SX, and SX Prestige. All models feature a 290-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive.
While even the base model comes well-equipped, it’s worth stepping up to the EX trim because it adds a litany of features, including seating and infotainment upgrades and additional active safety technology. The SX and SX Prestige trims add some nice touches as well, but the additional features in those trims are mostly luxury upgrades that many buyers may be able to live without.
