Almost every “Uncharted Area” in Super Mario Bros. Wonder requires a Wonder Flower (June 2024)
4This video is about the courses of Fungi Mines with “Uncharted Area” in their title, in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Toadette can be seen attempting to clear each level without a Wonder Flower.
During June 2024, I was trying to clear as many courses as I could in the game, without obtaining the Wonder Flower of each course. While some courses were more complex to clear than others, the “Uncharted Area[s]” of Fungi Mines were designed to be completed only by using the Wonder Effect of those levels.
These levels each have two exits (or Goal Poles), though one exit is fake¹ and does not unlock the next level. The correct exit is accessible using the Wonder Effect of each level.
For two of these levels, the route to the correct exit is blocked until the Wonder Flower is collected. For the first “Uncharted Area,” the correct exit isn’t blocked, but it is usually accessed by travelling along a low ceiling with the Wubba transformation.
In this video, we can see Toadette combine the use of a Drill Mushroom and the Boosting Spin Jump badge in that level. Similarly to the Wubba transformation, the Drill Mushroom power-up allows Toadette to travel along the ceiling, although she cannot travel along walls. The Boosting Spin Jump badge can provide Toadette with additional altitude in the air, which allows her to reach the ceiling after a wall-kick.
She can only perform this spinning jump once until she lands on the ground again, or until she enters a ceiling with the Drill Mushroom power-up. This means that she can perform it again when she leaves the ceiling, which is enough for her to reach the wall ahead of her; perform several wall-kicks; and reach the pipe to the correct exit of the level.
¹I’ve called this a fake exit since it doesn’t function the same as most goals for courses, and the game also displays “Course...clear?” instead of “Course clear!”
