A back-and-forth battle of two powerful, goofy-footed competitors, Cole Houshmand (USA) and Alonso Correa (PER), took control of their heat with Correa edging out the Southern Californian with an excellent 8.07. Correa hasn’t found success past his equal 17th at the GWM Sydney Pro, but his start here at Haleiwa provided a palpable spark for the Peruvian veteran.
The battle for Championship Tour qualification comes down to this. Seven men's and two women’s spots are still up for grabs when the CT hopefuls square off one last time at iconic Haleiwa. Until then, one question is dominating the North Shore and the entire surf world: who will qualify? Watch the Haleiwa Challenger live November 26 to December 7 on worldsurfleague.com.
