Alpine A110 at the Col de Turini 2019
Note: Translated from Italian.
In 1954 Jean Rèdèlè, French pilot and entrepreneur, won the difficult race of Criterium des Alpes and decided to give the name ALPINE to his cars, which he started producing in 1955.
Alpine and Col de Turini are two icons linked together: the Col de Turini is the epic and most prestigious stage of the Monte Carlo Rally, which saw Alpine triumph on several occasions. The Col de Turini was the scene of great battles to the rhythm of the chronometer and at the time it was also held at night, increasing its charm and helping to build the popularity and success of road racing. In 1973 the world rally championship was established, whose opening rally has always been the Montecarlo.
Alpine was the protagonist several times of the Monte Carlo Rally, where in 1971 the A110 riders started a series of victories culminating, in the same year, with the title of international Rally champion and then continued in 1973, with three crews on the podium and later, with the title of Rally World Champion.
65 years after the founding of Alpine, we wanted to retrace the roads of the Col de Turini aboard six new Alpine A110s, which since 2012 has been reborn with the new Berlinetta.
With the unchanged charm of all time, the iconic streets of the Col de Turini have been relived with the new born of the Alpine range, which today as then allows you to savor all the curves and turns of the route but with an eye projected to the future and technology board. As in the 70s, in fact Alpine embodies and maintains all the strengths desired by its founder Jean Redelè: lightness and manageability, with so much power, easy to drive not only on the track but also in everyday life.
The A110 has the rear engine, today with 252 horsepower, great lightness (about 1100 kg in weight), a very manoeuvrable chassis and suspension suitable for mountain driving and along very winding and adventurous tracks. There are three driving modes that adapt to the 7-speed automatic transmission with a look that fully incorporates the unmistakable line of the berlinetta born at the end of the 60s.
65 years after choosing the Alpine name, the A110 returns to the Alps to celebrate the success of then and today: an icon of sportiness and driving pleasure at the highest levels, Alpine returns to where its success was born.
