Why would you need luck in the first place? Well, you need to increase luck if you care what mobs will drop, what goodies you will find in chests, what caches will hold after you close breaches or participate in an invasion, luck affects legendary item drops too, or what rare items you will find while mining, harvesting, logging and skinning. Rare items here mean the item’s overall probability of appearing as a drop and nothing more, basically, luck increases the chance for all items. Skill Luck impacts the skill, general Luck impacts loot rolls and not gathering.
The description of global luck trophy states that luck affects everything except damage which is slightly misleading. Lucky perk affects loot drops and what you find in chests and caches, including legendary item drops, while skill luck is tied to a specific occupation, like Miner's luck affects only what players get while mining with the pickaxe, skinners luck while skinning animals with a skinning knife and so on. And, btw, Major corrupted breaches caches have a higher chance of dropping legendary weapons, just for your information.
There is no party luck system. Your loot is instanced to you, as is your luck.
I would definitely recommend having a full set of armor, weapon, and tools with luck for each activity that you are heavily spending your time on. Just make sure that these lucky armor sets are based on light armor, that way you can carry it everywhere without sacrificing too much of your carrying capacity.
General can be crafted onto armor and weapons, while specific skill luck can be crafted onto armor and appropriate tool, i.e., pickaxe has up to 5% chance of rare item drops but only while you are mining. In the end, you can have Specific Skill Luck on every armor piece and every tool plus you can use food that increases your chance on specific item drops while you are mining, harvesting, skinning, or logging. While general Luck perk that determines dropped loot rolls, cache, and chest contents you can have on every armor piece, one weapon, as only the active weapon counts no need to have multiple. Additionally, there are global luck trophies that you can place in your home – one in each of your houses, so up to three trophies in total which should also add a nice bonus to your Luck each. And the best thing is that The luck cap is currently based on the total number of “lucky” items the player can equip. There are no diminishing returns as a part of the system.
As you can see you can really improve your chances of finding special cooking ingredients, crafting modifiers, or other rare items by using appropriate gear set while harvesting resources or increase your chance on getting legendary weapons and other goodies from loot drops, chests, and caches with Lucky perk. Especially useful this is if you want to farm specific crafting modifier and you know who or what might drop it, just get as much Luck as possible and hope that random loves you today and always go for highest level enemies or resource nodes as it will increase your chances, or if you are farming chests go for higher tier territories in the north.
