The Crossfield Class starship was created for Star Trek Discovery as the flagship vessel and to be a new ship for Starfleet exemplifying science and experimentation. However I think it's fair to say it was an overly ambitious vessel that was ahead of its time that required more work. The Klingon War came at the worst time, merging it with the Spore Drive technology and changing the course for this spaceship.
