AMD's Next Horizon event is over, and it was a whirlwind. For a start, Zen 2 is shaping up to be a total monster, with 8 cores per chiplet, we're looking at up to 64 cores per socket for the Rome Epyc server CPU. AMD have totally changed the Zen 2 architecture by improving IPC, tweaking the front end and branch prediction, doubling the Zen 2 throughput and instruction pre fetching, larger caches and of course, improved Zen 2 execution pipeline.
Zen 2 is said to be sampling now, with zen 3 progressing nicely (built on TSMCs 7nm+ compare to the current 7nm of ZEn 2) and Zen 3 is in design.
AMD have also gone ahead and decided to use PCIE 4 for zen 2, and also vega 7nm - oh yeah, and vega 7nm is confirmed to NOT be for gamers. It is going to have up to 1TB/s memory bandwidth and 32GB of HBM2 memory. Furthermore, the design is a tweaked Vega 10 design, with improvements for HPC and virtualization.
