In this video we'll be examining the claims from AMD that the Zen Summit Ridge based processor which features 8 cores 16 threads will be faster than an Intel I7 6900K when running at the same clock speed, which the company demonstrated at the hot chips conference using Blender as the benchmarking software.
The Zen based summit Ridge CPU slightly out performed Intel's Broadwell E i7 6900K CPU by a few seconds in the benchmark.
The Zen lineup of desktop processors is due for a 2017 release date, though there isn't solid information on it or the price of Summit Ridge or other CPu's in AMD's upcoming Zen / AM4 lineup.
What we do know is that for the desktop Zen will be available in a 4 core, 6 core and 8 core configuration - and each Zen core is capable of handling 2 threads thanks to SMT.
