Amygdala Origins - Hulking Menace Suffering from Brain Damage Has Crushed Batman Many Times!
If you follow DC comics from time to time, you may have come across Amygdala at some point or the other.’ The term ‘amygdala’ refers to something common to all of us. According to Batman: Shadow of the Bat (1992) #3, it’s an almond-shaped mass of nerves located within our brain; responsible for controlling our rage-centric emotions/feelings. However, in real life, it not only regulates aggression and fear, but also links one’s emotions to one’s memories, learning capabilities, decisions and senses. Having covered the etymology, let us now make an important distinction – between Prime Earth and New Earth. Prime Earth (or Earth 0) refers to the DC Universe established post-Flashpoint in 2011; especially through DC’s 52 series (called the New 52). Whereas, New Earth was the main DC universe built over the decades preceding 2011’s reboot. In terms of continuity of characters and concomitant events, Prime Earth is fairly simpler than New Earth.We’ll come back to this later, via our slightly deeper plunge into the Flashpoint.Alright, let’s begin!
