Well, it's finally happened. Steamboat Willie has been put in the public domain, and everyone can safely make whatever they want with it, despite Walt's company's wishes.
So what does that have in store for me? Well, since the first cartoon in the Mickey Mouse universe has been reversed, it's got me in the mood for doing the rest. I've got my Walt Disney Treasures and other assorted DVD sets ready, so let's get into it!
Picture this: The year is 1961. Colour television is still in its infancy. When out of the blue, a program comes on NBC from a show called The Wonderful World Of Disney (known then as Disney's Wonderful World Of Color). This program introduced us to Donald's eccentric uncle who's always inventing, Professor Ludwig Von Drake, who in this episode explains the basis of colour TV. Then we are treated to Donald playing billiards in the featurette Donald In Mathmagic Land. The perfect way to kick off Disney's colour TV career (even though Walt filmed all his programs in colour).
Next up: It's baseball season and Goofy is in the league. But what's this? All of the players are Goofy himself. Let's see how this plays out...
