We have developed a cool RCP application for visualizing synchrotron data, called Dawn, and we would like to give you a tour of what it can do! We will have a few slides and live demos using the software. After a short introduction to what a synchrotron machine does, together we will journey through slices of a million year old fossil and look at the diffraction spots produced when looking at extremely small things. We will look at giant cameras able to detect high energy light and the free Java APIs we have developed.

Dawn has a visual algorithm builder based on GEF (we are moving to Graphiti) which drives a pipeline algorithm based on Ptolemy 2. We will look at how to extend this interface to add your own actors and to chain together practically anything.

Dawn is available open source under an EPL license and is in use at synchrotrons in the UK, France and Germany as well as other institutions like universities.
