In this video we get into battle with some very weak enemies, but not before I explain some game mechanics that will become very important later on.

Firstly, the kingdoms wage war on each other very often, and if you choose to join one of the factions, the geography of the map plays a big part in what kind of situation you'll find yourself in. Of course, every time you play the specifics will unfold differently, but being surrounded by potential enemies is always going to be more difficult than being in a natural fortress.

Second, the way to get a steady income early on is to invest in a productive enterprise in a town. The first few times I played, I didn't notice this, and so I'd always end up running out of money as my army grew. Later on, if you start owning villages and castles and towns, you'll get taxes from those, but even then having an enterprise in every city will be a very helpful boost to your income.

Third, we recruit a companion. Companions are important, because they level up the same way you do and they never die. They contribute important party skills, and they can be useful in battles too. Note that different companions will like and dislike different things, and they'll leave if they don't like you or each other. Pick your companions based on your playing style, and you might want to look up on the internet exactly who likes and dislikes what.
