Analog Devices Soundport: The Clou! - Sabien's Theme (composed by Hannes Seifert)
Hello friends, I like to show you a track that's sounds great on the Analog Devices FM - the ADFM that's shunned by most of the community for it's inaccurate OPL2/3 clone.
Well, I think it deserves it's place in the history of PC Sound, BECAUSE it's different and did not try just to copy the Yamaha. (or maybe they tried but failed, don't know)
Soundcards with Analog Devices DSP were not very common in the world I think, but they were relatively wide spread in Germany as two big local companys brought them on the marked here - Highscreen and Terratec. (Highscreen Sound Boostar and the Terratec TT1815/1816 (OEM) / Base1 (retail) cards). I think both of them did range them as entry level sound solutions, and therefore they were great due to its compatibity, easy setup/drivers and sound quality/noise level (above average mostly)
The bulit-in FM engine was engineered by Euphonic s and called EuSynth, and maybe licensed or bought by AD then. I come across it with the AD1812 at first, and it seem to be continued in later AD chips without changes to my ears. I like it's sound, but some hi hats / sounds that are fine on the Yamaha sounding quite strange on it - (see my Yamaha-FM /ADFM comparison videos)
The track of choice here is composed by Hannes Seifert, it's called SABIEN'S THEME, and it is part of the PC game THE CLOU!, developed and released by Neo Software in 1994.
