In this video I compare Game Boy and Game Boy Color games running on two of the greatest "hybrid" gaming devices currently available, the Analogue Pocket and the Nintendo Switch. I start with Pocket and end with Switch. I wanted to show off the new GBC Display Modes of the new Pocket firmware v1.1 final and compare the analogous Display Modes of Pocket to what Nintendo offers on Switch. While Pocket also has a new Original GBA Display Mode, I do not have access to that tier of the Switch subscription plan which allows me access to the service's GBA (and N64) titles. I have limited my comparisons to games which are common to both platforms.

00:00 - Super Mario Land 2 Pocket

Original DMG Display Mode

02:14 - Metroid 2: Return of Samus Pocket

Original GBP Display Mode

05:47 - Kirby's Dream Land Pocket

Analogue GB Display Mode with "Mint" Color Palette

08:37 - Gargoyle's Quest Pocket

Original GBC Display Mode with "Green" Color Palette. Pocket does not yet support custom color palettes with cartridge games, so I used the closest to the GBC BIOS's default palette. It does support GBC BIOS palettes with openFPGA GBC Core, but Display Modes are not yet available for openFPGA cores.

13:48 - The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX Pocket 1

Original GBC Display Mode

16:50 - The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX Pocket 2

Original GBC+ Display Mode

20:03 - Super Mario Land 2 Switch

Game Boy DMG Mode, first without classic feel, then with classic feel.

22:28 - Metroid 2: Return of Samus Switch

Game Boy Pocket Mode, first without classic feel, then with classic feel.

33:04 - Gargoyle's Quest Switch

Game Boy Color Mode, GBC BIOS palette applied (the default one). Kirby's Dream Land, Metroid 2, Super Mario Land 2 and Tetris will have their custom GBC BIOS palettes when run in Game Boy Color Mode.

29:12 - The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX Switch

Can only be played in Game Boy Color mode on Switch, even though this game is a hybrid game. Pocket can play this game as if it were played on either a Game Boy or Game Boy Color.
