The MOTHER series is my favorite video game series of all-time, with EarthBound (MOTHER 2) being my single favorite video game. August 27th was MOTHER 2's 30th anniversary, and to commemorate it, I am playing through the game and doing a deep-diving, thorough analysis of its narrative as I go. Most people completely misunderstand and underestimate Shigesato Itoi's brilliant RPG trilogy and don't notice all the hidden layers of its intricate story beneath its cute, funny, deceptively simplistic surface, and I want to change that by bringing a genuinely comprehensive analysis of the trilogy to YouTube for the first time, because I've never seen anyone else do so. Let's dive in with the most popular game in the MOTHER trilogy, the second: EarthBound (aka Earth Bound).
I'll be playing CoolGuyBrendyn's MOTHER 2: Perfect Edition translation because it's currently the most accurate translation to the Japanese original. This will clear up certain mysteries and inconsistencies with which the official Nintendo translation muddied things. Aside from analysis, however, we're also going to have a ton of fun, because I LOVE these games, and they're as adorable and hilarious as they are beautiful and complex. Here's Part 3!
