I don't know how hard you know entrenched nerd culture about not changing a timeless classic like Nethack, but Angband is right there as the competitor like Startrek vs StarWars. Imagine a guy saying,"You've been doing Nethack wrong all these years." The internet would explode with,"You're wrong!" Yeah, it did when I explained Angband had a flaw... Until I explained what it was and the masses started agreeing with me... And Dr. Andrew White took my design prototype and made it reality.

That UI guy... has done more than you know.

PS: Ironman Angband is one of the best games ever played. Get version angband-3.0.9b or before when the scrolls of deep decent are not there. I can't explain it, but it is a real man's game, balancing light, food, power, resists, etc... It is unreal. One of the best games I ever played, but you gotta learn commands and ascii art.
