I said I would start giving reviews to some of the free to play, casual games that I play. I'm starting with ones I've played fairly frequently, so they're going to be ones that I generally like. Here was my first take.

Animation Throwdown: The Quest for Cards. Take 5 popular Fox cartoons, and make a CCG based on their IP. I'll admit, it was the IPs that drew me to the game, but I rather like the way the game is done, for the most part. I would recommend playing it on Kongregate ( http://www.kongregate.com/games/Throwdown/animation-throwdown ) rather than downloading the Steam client, since the Steam version is limited unless you pay $10 every 30 days for a VIP pass, whereas you can get the same rewards for free by watching ads on Mobile and Kongregate.

On a free to play vs pay to win scale, there are clear advantages for paying. Huge spenders will have lots and lots of powerful cards that can beat non spenders down, but they tend to be playing against each other and not against the free players, so that's not as much of an issue. The game does have real-time based research for combos, which you can buy an item to speed them up. for minor spenders, I would highly recommend that purchase. Beyond that, purchases are a bit of quality of life, but you actually can earn a fair bit in-game, even powerful cards. So, yea, free, or minor investment players can get quite a lot out of this game, and do very well with it. -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/the_nametag
