Annex: Conquer The World Game Sample - PC/Indie
Here is an interesting game brought to our attention by DelphaDesign, Annex: Conquer The World, is a cool anime themed RTS (Real-Time Strategy) game that may remind some of other classic RTS like Warcraft or StarCraft. The game is an indie work and is currently freeware! It has some decent music with some nice visuals; things animate smoothly and the game runs with little hiccups, at least on my PC. Version 4.0 of the game has just recently been released, so it may add more quality PC gaming to what is already a nice freeware game, but I will give you the basic scoop behind the game.
Basically, you must defend your territory, gather materials, build different structures to provide you with greater support, offense, and defense (barracks, for example, to create infantry units, gun turrets, that sit in set areas and aggressively attack and protect around the area where they are set-up, etc.). Like games of this type, you must plan to slowly "move your fortress" around the map for ease of access when it comes to having your troops regroup with you faster if you get into an unexpected skirmish. You do this by setting up multiple barracks, multiple warehouses, so on and so forth, along your route of travel. More deployment facilities equals more angles from which to do battle. The game gets pretty hectic in different missions, but for the sake of playing and giving people an idea how the basic flow of gameplay works, I did a basic starter mission.
The game is steadily being tweaked, but it offers a lot of different options that can be changed within the options menu (windowed mode, for example, with some other traditional PC game features). This is just me; it has nothing to do with this game, but I don't play games like this more because I'm not super crazy about the mouse and click interface and the keyboard interface. I tend to use the joystick whenever possible...so as you can see, I have a small bit of trouble commanding the specific units that I want to take action. All in all though, the game is fun and plays like a decent RTS game; the developers have been taking notes and have worked (and continue to work) to create a quality game.
