eednob discovered that using the d-pad for the camera change at the start could result in as low as a 3.87...but this was dumb and inconsistent at best. After spending a couple hours on that approach and only reaching a 3.94, I looked for an alternate approach. I already knew that the only time that mattered was when the bird was killed, and the punch had a longer range. Maybe I could hit from farther away? The punch can't be used after a single jump unless it was equipped at the start of the jump, so that would rule out a boost jump...but the bird is kind of close to the edge. Sure enough, it's just barely close enough so that punching RIGHT at the edge would result in killing it, falling off and being able to hoop and punch its chips, saving a further sixth of a second! Even better, this method was actually consistent and enjoyable!
This particular 3.72 was nearly foiled early on by poor play from the first bird through the first monkey, but I made up for it with the best Dexter of my life and barely held onto the chain.
