This meant players were pitted against opponents of similar skill, but it also led to frustration. Queue times could be long, and even average players found themselves constantly facing very sweaty lobbies. Some felt this SBMM system hindered improvement as they were never matched against a wider range of skills. Season 20 brought a big change. Respawn ditched the old SBMM in favor of a system prioritizing faster matches. Now, your Ranked Points (RP) and how you perform in a match (kills and other factors) are used to create matchups. The aim is to find a balance between fair competition and keeping queue times reasonable. The community is still figuring out the new system. While some appreciate the faster queues, others aren't convinced it creates a truly fair experience, especially for newer or casual players.
