Build web apps that align with the type of apps you'd like to work on at companies. If you're a teacher, build an educational web app. Apply at a tech ed company. If you're a personal trainer, build a fitness web app. Apply at a fitness company. Companies WANT to hire developers who actually care about the product AND the users.
