(Arcade) RoboCop - Completed 1 Life / No Deaths, 1cc + bonus scoring bug 1080p60
23What can I say - I have a soft spot for arcade platformers from the late 80's, and RoboCop scratches that itch!
While not an overly tough game to clear on 1 credit, I really enjoyed learning and playing Robocop. Data East staples of cheesy voice-overs and silly "cinematic" cut scenes make an appearance, of course. There's even a really quick nod to Bad Dudes after completing the 5th level (around 14:32 of this video).
A few things of note, if you are looking to complete this game on 1 credit (1cc):
1) Learn when you can conserve your cobra gun ammo; it really lays waste to the bosses you can carry it to in just a couple of hits!
2) Be aware that there is no hit stun invulnerability for enemy shots. When you take a bullet hit, another round can hit you right away.
3) There is hit stun invulnerability for colliding with large objects. I abuse this to cheese the dual ED-209 attack at the end of level 6; By taking a hit from the first ED-209, I am able to backtrack to the health canister and pelt him from a safe area below him (17:55 in video).
4) Getting the 100% accuracy on the bonus rounds is very important. Not only do you get your health 100% replenished, but also the life bar extension is really useful in the later levels of the game.
The scoring glitch I demonstrate at 25:35 can be done on any level with a red barrel while also holding the cobra gun. Barely scroll the barrel off-screen, then fire the cobra gun towards where it was. Your points will rapidly increase until you scroll back to where the red barrel was on the screen. Using this technique, the top scores approach 10 million points!
This run was played on default settings: difficulty = normal, player energy = medium, bonus stage energy = high.
