The puzzles here are more of the surprise death type, which has not been the case in the previous parts of the game. In hindsight, maybe they're deliberately doing things that are more likely to frustrate the player to build up the conflict between the player and Wheatley. If you're presenting puzzles in a way that kills the player without the player even knows what's going on, it's essentially cheating because the player doesn't have a chance. The game has avoided doing this up until now, but having Wheatley "cheat" at this point is probably appropriate, given his character.
