SUMMARY

A new free-to-play FPS that mimics much of what made Call of Duty and other first-person-shooter games extremely popular on consoles is due to be released by Webzen called Arctic Combat.

Like many video games, gamers are drawn to scenes that fit into particular roles and are easily gamified. Warfare is already almost a game when it comes down to the cultures and rules involved -- right down to two-sided conflicts, limited resources, uniforms, equipment, and strategy. As a result, it's easily sold to audiences as a game method and has a pre-built tribal-affect of putting two sides against one another in competition.

In this competition players quickly discover the roles that they're comfortable with: holding a position, sniping from hidden spaces, charging running-and-gunning. As teams are also part of the gameplay often players will begin to understand how other people on their team affect their own game and the role that they take.

On YouTube there's an entire community of players who make commentary about the games that they play, and this is especially true for the contemporary FPS gaming community with Call of Duty, Modern Warfare, Battlefield, etc. In fact, commentators on these games gain numerous views and while they don't always give out tutorials on how to play they game some of them use gameplay as a backdrop for cultural conversations or simple video blogging.
