I think D&D is an amazing, rewarding endeavor and our job and responsibility, when we engage with the game, to make it rewarding and amazing for everyone. When we start giving out guidance making one person responsible for fun or telling other persons at the table that they only need to deal with themselves, then we are doing a disservice.
