Are MUDs dying? My Top 5 Reasons Why
1031. League of Legends/Fortnite/PUBG? These games are drawing the younger generation away from games like MUDs.
2. Age (generational gaps). All of the older players are disappearing, there is no replacement from the younger generation to play.
3. Recruiting and advertising efforts in the mudding community absolutely suck. Advertising on topmudsites or the /r/mud subreddit seems pointless.
4. Technology like VR and games like Far Cry 5 and Witcher 3 are amazing and fun. Why play MUDs when we have games like this?
5. Poorly ran games by hobbyist/enthusiast people which makes muds not worth the headaches.
There is no oversight or regulation in muds.
Pros: Free, no pay to win, passionate people.
Cons: No ethics or morals, development is bad, good coders come to learn then leave, sub-par writing on muds.
