Console wars first got their start in the late 1980s and early 1990s between Nintendo and Sega, when the two were the most dominant in the home console market. Then, Microsoft and Sony took over the console wars with the Xbox and PlayStation.

Since then, console wars have become muddled in a lot of different console releases, exclusives, and so much more. With all the competition in the gaming industry and the way technology is advancing, are console wars still relevant? What's the point of it?

For corporations, competition is at an all-time high, and the benefits they reap from the console wars is important. Console wars in general are beneficial to the companies, engaging consumers in tribalistic conflict for no reason.

So, why do we have console wars? What's the point?
