Argyll reviews: Dallas from Manhattan Project, 4,1k Open Division team
I got to sit with Dallas today, a Grandmaster Main Tank, who plays for a European Open Division team. He submitted two maps from his personal POV, taken out of a scrimblock he was in with his team. We got around to review it, in which we got to address several aspects that you may want to look at if you're looking to reach a high level of teamplay. I'll address a few key points here for reference:
1. Keep an eye out on your healthbar and shield. In a couple cases, you died because you engaged when you were already low. Moreover, you sometimes died whilst you still had a lot of hitpoints remaining on your shield. In these cases, you generally want to make sure you block a lot of damage on your shield, that way, you actually elongate your life, you force the enemy team to invest resources into killing you, and you also have a better chance of actually surviving.
2. When setting up certain plays or ultimate combination (such as and EMP+Earthshatter), you want to look to communicate very tightly with your counterpart. In this case, you can look to communicate very tightly with your Sombra, so you can setup your ultimate combination successfully.
3. Look to recognise crucial corners and chokes cleverly, especially in Goats versus Goats games. In some cases, you took space a tad too wide, but still insisted on engaging aggressively. In these cases, your team was already forced to use an Armour Pack and/or Team Bubble. Still engaging when you're a such a disadvantage is difficult, you could look to either not engage like that, or look to disengage a bit and go for a better engagement.
4. When your Zarya and Zenyatta are looking to farm up their ultimates, you should look to play more defensively. These two heroes offer crucial damage and ultimates to the Goats composition. In these cases, you could look to play defensively, allowing for your Zarya and Zenyatta to deal a lot of damage, farming their ultimates in the process.
5. Avoid dropping on your enemy from dangerous position, and be conservative in sneaky shatters or charges from behind enemy lines. They may work here, but if any team ever decides to snuff you out, you'll be in for a wild ride.
6. When you're setting up for a certain play or ultimate combination, you tend to tell you're going for it. The enemy team might have not recognised it here, but better opponents may do so. Look to avoid communicating your plays telepathically.
7. You tend to play quite aggressive, which works decently well in your current team and in the current meta. But I would surely recommend looking for alternate playstyles in which you can still find value. That way, you're more secured when a change in meta comes around, or when you get to play with different players.
As always, if there's any questions, feel free to ask me. And best of luck in Open Division!
