For those who are not aware this is a Switch exclusive "educational" game using the world of ARK: Survival Evolved as a presentation canvas.
I stumbled into it while looking for interesting-ish looking Switch titles while trying to find some stuff for my newly acquired Switch OLED. The game itself is okay-ish, I suppose it serves it's purpose. It k i n d a teaches kids the most basic of facts regarding a number of prehistoric species (mostly dinosaurs) and this educational aspect is wrapped into a somewhat satisfying base gameplay loop of discovering animals, doing quests for them and by completing said quests, unlocking the ability to ride some (not all) of them. There's also a completely pointless base building mechanic attached to it that which I never used even once despite the game constantly nagging me about having unlocked yet another function for it. There's no survivalist gameplay whatsoever, you just walk around semi-aimlessly while following semi-randomly generated objective markers. It manages to run on the hardware just barely enough which resulted in most of the complications regarding me trying to extract it's soundtrack. You see the Switch usually allows the user to record 30 seconds of buffered gameplay, but this function has been disabled for this particular game as the it desperately needs every ounce of resource it can get to maintain it's amazing 15-30 fps gameplay speed. So my original plan was to cut together the entire soundtrack from 30 second blocks, but when the original hardware invalidated this plan I decided to turn to emulation instead which was an adventure on it's own.
You see the first version of this game was so fucking bad (original hardware uses the latest patch of course where all of this is fixed) that originally there was no properly looping background music or even a functioning in-game map for you to guide yourself with in this game that has the word "discovery" in it's title. By utilizing dark magic I've managed to familiarize myself enough with Ryujinx to install patches onto the emulated base game tho, so I could actually attempt to record stuff. The result is this video.
I gotta say that this was my first ARK related gaming experience, so ultimately I have no idea whether this entire musical endeavour on my part was completely pointless or not, I do have a hunch though that at least some of the game's tracks sound way too whimsical and "positively melodious", "child friendly" so to say instead of "aggressively intense, menacingly mysterious and/or epic", so they are probably not directly recycled from the other ARK games. I could be wrong though. I just don't know. Either way as the music was one of the absolute highlights of this otherwise janky AF game for me and at the time of writing this no one else has made this attempt afaik I absolutely wanted to see this through.
There you go, that was some rambling, enjoy the music! :D
