In the shadow of a humanitarian crisis in Somalia, Warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid has seized power, hijacked food shipments and turned the city of Mogadishu into a battlefield. Under the fascade of local authority, he has declared open season on UN peacekeepers and relief efforts. He has begun executing civilians, targeting aid convoys, broadcasting his grip on the city with gunfire and bloodshed.

The international community has pleaded for stability. Aidid has answered with killings, ambushes and propaganda.

Now, under direct authority from the President of the United States, we will bring this to an end. We are deploying as part of Task Force Ranger, an elite joint strike force of special force operators.
