Arrowhead Game Studios - Emil Englund Interview
We stopped by the Arrowhead Game Studios offices to talk to lead designer Emil Englund about splitting up in two teams, one working on Helldivers and one working on an unannounced project. We talk about past projects Magicka and The Showdown Effect as well as how he'd like the studio to evolve.
Arrowhead Game Studios is one of those studios GRTV has followed closely over the years and we've interviewed Emil and his partner in crime Johan Pilestedt many times over the years. As we asked Emil Englund how long the studio had been around, he wasn't quite sure (according to the internets the studio was founded early in 2008):
"It feels like three lifetimes or something. I can't even remember what happened in the beginning anymore."
Doesn't sound like a great place to work, does it? But Englund replied...
"Both good and bad sides, really. It's like it's been both ups and downs. It has been like an entire lifetime of stuff just crammed into this period."
Having their first two games published by Paradox Interactive (Magicka, The Showdown Effect), and co-operating with Sony on Helldivers, one day Arrowhead Game Studios would like to try their hands at self-publishing ("eventually down the line, at least try it out"). For now the studio is focusing on getting Helldivers ready as possibly the first multiplayer game to offer cross-platform play on three PlayStation systems (PS3, PS4 and PS Vita), and working on their secret project (hopefully unveiled in 2014).
