Once you have control of an adult Connor, you need to find some cash fast. The easiest way to have lots of money very quickly is to take out Forts throughout the region.

The only hard part about forts is actually infiltrating them. They actually close the front gates if they detect you.
Once you find a way in, destroy the blackpowder reserves (either by interacting with them or exploding a powder keg near them) and kill the captain. Once those objectives is done, approach the fort's flag, become anonymous, and raise the patriot flag.

Monmouth is west of the Monmouth harbor fast travel point (south-west).
Desquesne is in the north-west. You can follow a road west from Connor's village.
St-Matthieu is east of Monmouth harbor but west of the Frontier-to-New-York fast travel point; (it's on the south border of the map, but in the center between the west and east edges).
