Join me as I play through Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.
Set in the 18th century during the Golden Age of Piracy in the Caribbean and follows the exploits of the notorious Edward Kenway. Father of Hatham and grandfather of Ratonhnhaké:ton “Connor” Kenway. Much like Ezio, Edward blunders into the ongoing conflict between the Assassin’s and Templars, not knowing who to trust and going by his own instincts for gain.
This game also sees the return of the usual Assassin’s Creed freedom to explore but taken to a whole other level. Most of the game-world is a vast open network of hidden coves, whole islands, atolls, ruins and the occasional fortress. We have three main cities with Havana, Kingston and Nassau all under different influences, Spanish, British and the fledgling Prate Nation. We see the return of the previous hunting system with a bit of an overhaul.

But by far the biggest aspect of this game is well a tertiary character in the Jackdaw, our very own ship to ply the ocean. Fully upgradeable and handles much better than the Aquila. We’re able to use the trusty pirate Spyglass, instantly knowing what booty awaits within the holds of our prey. But what is a ship without it’s crew? Wood and sheets, so we see the return of the recruitment system of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, free the soon-to-be-executed, or those locked in the stockade and they will pledge loyalty to me. Also those aboard ship can get their own vessels. With a return of the now tried and tested Mediterranean/Colonial Defence. We can capture vessels and put our own crews out to bring in streams of revenue.

Back in the present something else is brewing within the offices of Abstergo Entertainment. This is something similar to the Lost Archive/Desmond sections from Assassin’s Creed Revelations, but executed in a much better fashion. as we work to uncover secrets and meet a few familiar faces.
