Jumping from the Rift to Google Cardboard, to play test some Assassins Creed Unity. This is the first of 3 methods I tested to play ACU in mobile VR
I see sbs 3D on the S4/Google Cardboard VR HMD .. (phone) at the moment there is no way to capture this .. you see the 2D on the PC .. and my ghost playing in 3D with head tracking..
This is my first of six methods to test ACU with mobile VR here using Trinus Gyre .. which I have now learnt to spell if not pronounce and of course use ..to mobilize VR..
1. There is a USB tether to the PC you can use Wifi if you want
2. Head Tracking is via Zeiss there are many alternative options including mouse emulation in Trinus Gyre...
3. 3D is generated on the phone .. taking load off the PC in this example of Mobile VR unlike other methods where I use 3D on the PC and then stream..
4.Head Tracking and so called VR rock third person games especially when you have a close to life sized Paris to walk around in..
Quality is insane for what this is .. far less optical issues than the Oculus Rift DK2 ... remember everyone already has a VR headset in their pocket.
So now when you are bored on that flight or fed up at the loss of your TV access.. whip out that phone .. put it in Google Cardboard and play some ACU ..in VR
I use a 1080p ultra hi res setting in game. Ideally you want to play at 720p for current wifi/phone streaming if FPS is really important.
I needed to compare the Rift to S4 Cardboard so I used the same res to play. Visually it still shocks me how impressive this Mobile $2 VR HMD is .. full article coming to thegameveda
