Asymmetry of Information | Review Code Benefits Gamers | Feature Creep
Today's topic is asymmetrical information which is a concept in economics which has the long term benefit of destroying a market from the inside. And I talk about how Bethesda, EA and Square Enix are contributing to this phenomenon by preventing consumers from getting enough information about video games before buying them.
The game industry has gotten pretty good at controlling information about its' games. Historically, publishers would provide review code to media outlets and even to YouTubers in order to get more content out to the interwebs in order to hype up and push a game. Unfortunately, now we have some concrete examples of publishers intentionally withholding review code and by doing so, making it more difficult for gamers to get information on games.
