5In which I have a game of "Archon" programmed by Anne Westfall, Jon Freeman, and Paul Reiche, and published by Electronic Arts in 1983. It's a strategy war game, with some similarities to chess, but not many. The pieces fight each other, relative strengths vary, and there are at least two ways to win a round. This was clearly a huge influence on "Battle Chess".
This game was beloved by many and is fondly remembered. I was quite good at this back in the mid-80s. While my skills started to come back to me, I wasn't good enough to beat the computer!
